As the cold snap starts to ease, we encourage agronomists and growers to be ready with Broadway Star applications to winter wheat as soon as conditions allow.
Based on our trials, higher levels of control of key weeds by Broadway Star are achieved from early applications in the spring rather than later timings. An early application treats smaller brome and ryegrass resulting in a better kill.
Stuart Jackson explains “Often by the time we get into April, bromes will have packed on the tillers and even be starting to move into reproductive growth, killing them at this size is a real challenge for any selective herbicide.”
Usage of Broadway Star has been growing significantly in recent years. There are multiple drivers for this increase:
1) Increasing amounts of brome often in reduced tillage systems.
2) The combined grass and broad-leaved weed control gives the product excellent value-for-money.
3) Concerns regarding ALS carry-over on sensitive following crops such as OSR – the active ingredients in Broadway Star are very short lived.
4) Compatibility – Broadway Star has a great tank mix list covering many of the early season inputs.
